SUMMARY:Annual Quilts by the River\, March 27th and 28th
DESCRIPTION:Quilts by the River in Downtown Palatka. \nOur quilt show is a little different in that it is a smaller and more intimate affair.  You will have an opportunity to leisurely stroll through the quilts while admiring the techniques and uniqueness of each quilt.   Like other shows we do have a certified judge\, with categories and prizes\, vendors\, and baskets for bidding.   We hope through our show quilters and non-quilters alike will be inspired to continue the heritage of quilting and fiber arts. \nVendors for this year:  Martelli\, Arrow Cabinets\, Origami Owl Jewelry\, Granny Suzanne Patterns\, Accuquilt\, 52 Stitches\, plus more \nQuilts are displayed at Saint James Methodist Fellowship Hall\, 400 Reid Street\, Palatka\, Florida.  Entrance fee is $7.00 per person.  If you submit a quilt\, you automatically have free admission to the show.  To add to our event\, when you pay your entrance fee you will receive a Vendor Passport.  Bring it with you to the vendor show located at 301 Saint Johns Avenue\, receive stamps from all the vendors then enter the passport for an opportunity to win either a Gift Certificate to Miss D’s for $250.00 or $400.00.  Just a little more fun! \nAll entrants must submit one completed application form for each entry; the application form may be photocopied. Each application or must be accompanied with either a check or money order in the amount $15.00 made payable to Miss D’s Quilts.  All quilts must be received by March 21\, 2025\, by 5:00 p.m.\, or they will not be included in the event. Quilts may be mailed to Miss D’s Quilts\, 305 St. Johns Avenue\, Palatka\, Florida 32177\, or hand delivered to the same address.  Quilts must be submitted with a completed application form\, payment\, and must be enclosed in a fabric bag with secure means of closure. The quilt owner’s name and phone number must appear on the outside of the fabric bag/pillowcase. Each quilt must have its own fabric bag/pillowcase. Each quilt must have a 4” sleeve at the top of the quilt for proper display.  There must be no more than 90” from the bottom of the quilt to the sleeve. \nALL ENTRIES MUST HAVE:\n1. A LABEL stitched to the LOWER LEFT SIDE of the back of the quilt with the maker and quilter’s name. The label may be stitched or written in permanent ink. NO information should be on the front of the quilt. The label MUST MATCH THE APPLICATION entry form.\n2. A 4-inch SLEEVE must be on the upper back for hanging. The top sleeve should be no more than 90” from the bottom of the quilt\,\n3. Be submitted in a bag or pillowcase – CLEARLY MARKED with your name and the name of the entry.\n4. Be submitted with a LEGIBLE / COMPLETE entry application.\n5. A check payable to Miss D’s Quilt or cash for the submission fee.\n6. A signature and date for the HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT. \nGENERAL RULES:\n1. All entries must be quilted by hand\, machine\, or both. Quilting is defined as a running stitch that passes through the top\, batting\, and backing. TIED quilts are not eligible.\n2. All quilts must fit the size requirements and definitions of the selected category. See: CATEGORIES section to determine your placement.\n3. NO quilt larger than 110” by 110” are accepted.\n4. Entrants may not submit more than three quilts for this event. NO single entry can be in multiple categories\, but you may have 3 quilts in the same category.\n5. NO quilt previously entered in prior Quilts by the River events may be submitted.\n6. Quilts must be in excellent condition. NO Incomplete\, torn\, or soiled entries will be accepted.\n7. A qualified category will be eligible for monetary awards when there are 4 or more entries in that category. If a qualified category has less than 4 entries\, it will be eligible for ribbons only.\n8. All quilts must be checked in by the acceptance date and remain on display both days.\n9. All shipped quilts must contain a prepaid return package and must arrive during the acceptance period. They will be returned within a two-week period after the event.\n10. All decisions of the jurors and judges are final. Quilts by the River reserves the right to REJECT ANY ENTRY OR MOVE AN ENTRY TO A DIFFERENT CATEGORY.\n11. Entries will be picked up by the PERSON WHO ENTERED IT after the event with proper ID**\n12. Any entry not picked up after the event can be picked up at Miss D’s Quilts on the Monday after. \nCATEGORIES\n1. LARGE PIECED QUILTS—Made and quilted by one or more persons and more than 50% pieced.\n2. INTERMEDIATE PIECED QUILTS—made and quilted by one or more persons with the total of all sides being greater than 180” but less than 288” and more than 50% pieced.\n3. SMALL PIECED QUILTS—total of all sides less than 180”\n4. APPLIQUE QUILTS – more than 50% pieced). Category includes stained glass quilts.\n5. EMBROIDERY QUILTS—quilts predominantly with machine embroidered blocks or patterns. All sizes will be included in this category.\n6. HAND QUILTED—Quilted exclusively by hand.\n7. ART QUILTS—Original designs\n8. MINIATURE QUILTS –Width no more than 24” and length no more than 24”. All aspects of the quilt are reduced in scale.\nCATEGORIES CONTINUED \n9. OTHER TECHNIQUES—examples of this category will include whole cloth quilts\, more than 40% heavily embellished quilts\, crazy quilts\, cathedral window\, machine and/or hand embroidered\, and quilts with very special techniques. Any size except miniature\n10. YOUNG QUILTER—All quilts made by quilters under the age of 16 or students in grade 12 and under. The entire quilt must be pieced and quilted by the young quilter. Young Quilters are not limited to this category. SUMMARY:12th Annual Quilts by the River\, April 4th - 5th
DESCRIPTION:2025 is the 12th year of Quilts by the River in Downtown Palatka. \nOur quilt show is a little different in that it is a smaller and more intimate affair.  You will have an opportunity to leisurely stroll through the quilts while admiring the techniques and uniqueness of each quilt.   Like other shows we do have a certified judge\, with categories and prizes\, vendors\, and baskets for bidding.   We hope through our show quilters and non-quilters alike will be inspired to continue the heritage of quilting and fiber arts. \nEntrance fee is $7.00 per person.  If you submit a quilt\, you automatically have free admission to the show.  To add to our event\, when you pay your entrance fee you will receive a Vendor Passport.  Bring it with you to the vendor show located at 301 Saint Johns Avenue\, receive stamps from all the vendors then enter the passport for an opportunity to win either a Gift Certificate to Miss D’s for $250.00 or $400.00.  Just a little more fun! \nAll entrants must submit one completed application form for each entry; the application form may be photocopied. Each application or must be accompanied with either a check or money order in the amount $10.00 made payable to Miss D’s Quilts.  All quilts must be received by March 28\, 2025\, by 5:00 p.m.\, or they will not be included in the event. Quilts may be mailed to Miss D’s Quilts\, 305 St. Johns Avenue\, Palatka\, Florida 32177\, or hand delivered to the same address.  Quilts must be submitted with a completed application form\, payment\, and must be enclosed in a fabric bag with secure means of closure. The quilt owner’s name and phone number must appear on the outside of the fabric bag/pillowcase. Each quilt must have its own fabric bag/pillowcase. Each quilt must have a 4” sleeve at the top of the quilt for proper display.  There must be no more than 90” from the bottom of the quilt to the sleeve. \nALL ENTRIES MUST HAVE:\n1. A LABEL stitched to the LOWER LEFT SIDE of the back of the quilt with the maker and quilter’s name. The label may be stitched or written in permanent ink. NO information should be on the front of the quilt. The label MUST MATCH THE APPLICATION entry form.\n2. A 4-inch SLEEVE must be on the upper back for hanging. The top sleeve should be no more than 90” from the bottom of the quilt\,\n3. Be submitted in a bag or pillowcase – CLEARLY MARKED with your name and the name of the entry.\n4. Be submitted with a LEGIBLE / COMPLETE entry application.\n5. A check payable to Miss D’s Quilt or cash for the submission fee.\n6. A signature and date for the HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT. \nGENERAL RULES:\n1. All entries must be quilted by hand\, machine\, or both. Quilting is defined as a running stitch that passes through the top\, batting\, and backing. TIED quilts are not eligible.\n2. All quilts must fit the size requirements and definitions of the selected category. See: CATEGORIES section to determine your placement.\n3. NO quilt larger than 110” by 110” are accepted.\n4. Entrants may not submit more than three quilts for this event. NO single entry can be in multiple categories\, but you may have 3 quilts in the same category.\n5. DESCRIPTION:To quote “A Kaleidoscope Quilt is a symmetrical quilt that takes its design features from the intricate patterns inside a kaleidoscope. SUMMARY:Kaleidoscope Quilt with Rikki\, November 9th & 16th\, Saturday
DESCRIPTION:To quote “A Kaleidoscope Quilt is a symmetrical quilt that takes its design features from the intricate patterns inside a kaleidoscope. Kaleidoscope quilt blocks are made by cutting a square into eight equal wedges\, much like an 8-pointed stars.”  And that is exactly what the block looks like\, an intricate star made from fabric full of motion.  Rikki assures me that as complicated as they look they are really easy to make.  She will be joining us November 9th and 16th for a two day event to create your own Kaleidoscope quilt using Jason Yenter’s border fabrics.  We do have a selection of background fabrics you can choose from. \n   \nWhat to bring to class: \n\nSpools of regular sewing thread neutral colors\nBobbin thread or pre-wound bobbins\nMachine sewing needles\nDon’t forget your power cord\, foot pedal and your regular embroidery and sewing accessories\n\nWhen: November 9th and November 16th\, Saturday \nTime:  10:00 – 4:00 both days \nCost:  $75.00; The class is two days and the fee of $75.00 covers both days. \nPattern and fabric are available at Miss D’s for a discount. \nRemember any items purchased at Miss D’s for class receive a 15% discount.  Please let us know in advance if you will need supplies\, so that we can ensure we have what you need at hand. \nProjects in the class will be similar but may not be the exact same as the pictures — the techniques will be the same.

DESCRIPTION:Miss D’s is excited to bring you the very first Handi Quilter classes offered at the Jacksonville Quilt Show.   The classes will be offered in morning and afternoon sessions in three hour duration and will be led by a Handi Quilter Educator.  The classroom will be set up with 6 separate Amara 20s including Pro-Stitcher.  There will be no more than 2 students per machine\, this means a maximum of 12 students per class. \nOur class offerings are: \nThursday\, September 19th \nMorning class 9:00 – Noon; 1A-HO: Longarm Bootcamp (3 hours) \n\nClass Description:  Does longarm quilting interest you\, and you’d like to learn more about it?  Or do you just want review of longarm quilting basics?  This class will cover the basic elements and features\, how to load a quilt\, and vital facts about thread\, needles\, and tension.  \n\nAfternoon class 1:30 – 4:30; 2A-LD: Sweet and Simple Free-Motion Quilting (3 hours) \n\nClass Description:  Quilters everywhere LOVE the excitement and fun of free-motion — and it’s easier than you think! Learn how drawing and muscle memory contribute to beautiful free-motion quilting\, and how you can create stunning designs.\n\nFriday\, September 20th \nMorning class 9:00 – Noon; PS-HO1:  Pro-Stitcher Basics (Hands on) (3 hours) \n\nClass Description:  Pro-Stitcher is an intuitive computer-guided system designed especially for use with Handi Quilter lomgarm quilting machines.  User-friendly and simple to operate\, the step-by-step process for each function is easy and fun.  Whether finish your own quilts or consider a quilting business\, come see the elegant and precise quilting you can accomplish with Pro-Stitcher.\n\nAfternoon class 1:30 – 4:30; 3A-HO: Radical Rulers (3 hours) \n\nClass Description:  If you love precision and consistency in your quilting rulers\, you will love using design rulers and templates!  Learn to handle rulers and templates safely with the ruler base and Sure Foot\, and how to achieve accuracy with the markings.  The wide variety of Handi Quilter rulers will inspire you to new design heights.\n\nSaturday\, September 21st \nMorning class 9:00 – Noon; WS-HO1: Background Fills and Beyond (3 hours) \n\nClass Description:  Interested in building a library of designs you can use with confidence?  In this workshop\, you’ll identify shapes you already love to quilt\, learn how to create pathways to connect designs\, and explore using different threads to really make your background fill quilting pop.\n\nAfternoon class 1:30 – 4:30; WS-HO3: Finding Your Path \n\nClass Description:  Laying out designs using gridwork creates even spacing and uniformity in quilting.  In this workshop\, you’ll learn how to make your own stencils\, explore designs that work well within grids\, and tips and tricks for marking grids on your next quilting project.\n\nPlease register for your class below.  If you have any questions\, please contact Miss D’s Quilts\, 386-385-5678 or Missd@missdsquilts.com \nLeigh Zipf will be our Handi Quilter instructor during the all hands-on event at the Jacksonville Quilt Show. \nLeigh has always been a crafty DIY type of person who enjoys making things with her hands. Twenty-six years ago Leigh was the owner of a marine canvas shop where she created upholstery from canvas and vinyl for a variety of settings. This is where she fell in love with sewing\, Leigh made clothing and accessories before finding her love of piecing and creating quilts. Quilting on a domestic machine for most of that time she finally moved to a stationary HQ Sweet Sixteen® long arm and then moved up to a HQ Forte® long arm with Pro Stitcher® Premium. Leigh worked for a local sewing gallery for the past 4 years where she instructed new owners how to use their new machines and/or software.  We are fortunate to have Leigh with her enthusiasm for quilting joining us at Jacksonville Quilt Show.

SUMMARY:Quilting with Iris\, Saturday\, August 3rd
DESCRIPTION:Everything but the Kitchen Sink Longarm Applique\nThis month Iris has really out done herself. She created a project that will combine nearly every skill and technique we have covered to create one lovely wall hanging.  We are combining free motion with Pro-Stitcher Designer and Pro-Stitcher.\nIn the class you will begin with creating custom areas in designer and layout the flower arrangement in Pro-Stitcher. Then raw edge applique’ and securing all the flowers with free motion quilting. Finally\, adding some couching and echoing to embellish the wall hanging.\nIf you don’t have Pro-Stitcher\, just go to the Handi Quilter website and download the Pro-Stitcher software onto your lap top.   It is not necessary to purchase the software\, this download is free.  Don’t have Pro-Stitcher on your home machine\, not to worry this is a fun project and a great way to learn something new.\n\nClass is open to all long-arm owners regardless of  place of purchase or machine brand. \nRemember this is hands-on with your experienced and talented educator at your side guiding you throughout the class. \nClass times:  10:00 am – 4:00 pm\nLunch:  included in class fee\nFee:  $80.00 \nPlease bring pen and paper to take notes.  Also\, bring your laptop with Pro-Stitcher Simulator installed.  In class we plan to utilize the software.  If you don’t have Pro-Stitcher\, not to worry. \nIn the past we have demonstrated unique projects which would enable you to learn new techniques\, use your software to its fullest and perhaps a make a little money along the way.  So\, for you crafters\, this project meets all those requirements.
