SUMMARY:12th Annual Quilts by the River\, April 4th - 5th
DESCRIPTION:2025 is the 12th year of Quilts by the River in Downtown Palatka. \nOur quilt show is a little different in that it is a smaller and more intimate affair.  You will have an opportunity to leisurely stroll through the quilts while admiring the techniques and uniqueness of each quilt.   Like other shows we do have a certified judge\, with categories and prizes\, vendors\, and baskets for bidding.   We hope through our show quilters and non-quilters alike will be inspired to continue the heritage of quilting and fiber arts. \nEntrance fee is $7.00 per person.  If you submit a quilt\, you automatically have free admission to the show.  To add to our event\, when you pay your entrance fee you will receive a Vendor Passport.  Bring it with you to the vendor show located at 301 Saint Johns Avenue\, receive stamps from all the vendors then enter the passport for an opportunity to win either a Gift Certificate to Miss D’s for $250.00 or $400.00.  Just a little more fun! \nAll entrants must submit one completed application form for each entry; the application form may be photocopied. Each application or must be accompanied with either a check or money order in the amount $10.00 made payable to Miss D’s Quilts.  All quilts must be received by March 28\, 2025\, by 5:00 p.m.\, or they will not be included in the event. Quilts may be mailed to Miss D’s Quilts\, 305 St. Johns Avenue\, Palatka\, Florida 32177\, or hand delivered to the same address.  Quilts must be submitted with a completed application form\, payment\, and must be enclosed in a fabric bag with secure means of closure. The quilt owner’s name and phone number must appear on the outside of the fabric bag/pillowcase. Each quilt must have its own fabric bag/pillowcase. Each quilt must have a 4” sleeve at the top of the quilt for proper display.  There must be no more than 90” from the bottom of the quilt to the sleeve. \nALL ENTRIES MUST HAVE:\n1. A LABEL stitched to the LOWER LEFT SIDE of the back of the quilt with the maker and quilter’s name. The label may be stitched or written in permanent ink. NO information should be on the front of the quilt. The label MUST MATCH THE APPLICATION entry form.\n2. A 4-inch SLEEVE must be on the upper back for hanging. The top sleeve should be no more than 90” from the bottom of the quilt\,\n3. Be submitted in a bag or pillowcase – CLEARLY MARKED with your name and the name of the entry.\n4. Be submitted with a LEGIBLE / COMPLETE entry application.\n5. A check payable to Miss D’s Quilt or cash for the submission fee.\n6. A signature and date for the HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT. \nGENERAL RULES:\n1. All entries must be quilted by hand\, machine\, or both. Quilting is defined as a running stitch that passes through the top\, batting\, and backing. TIED quilts are not eligible.\n2. All quilts must fit the size requirements and definitions of the selected category. See: CATEGORIES section to determine your placement.\n3. NO quilt larger than 110” by 110” are accepted.\n4. Entrants may not submit more than three quilts for this event. NO single entry can be in multiple categories\, but you may have 3 quilts in the same category.\n5. NO quilt previously entered in prior Quilts by the River events may be submitted.\n6. Quilts must be in excellent condition. NO Incomplete\, torn\, or soiled entries will be accepted.\n7. A qualified category will be eligible for monetary awards when there are 4 or more entries in that category. If a qualified category has less than 4 entries\, it will be eligible for ribbons only.\n8. All quilts must be checked in by the acceptance date and remain on display both days.\n9. All shipped quilts must contain a prepaid return package and must arrive during the acceptance period. They will be returned within a two-week period after the event.\n10. All decisions of the jurors and judges are final. Quilts by the River reserves the right to REJECT ANY ENTRY OR MOVE AN ENTRY TO A DIFFERENT CATEGORY.\n11. Entries will be picked up by the PERSON WHO ENTERED IT after the event with proper ID**\n12. Any entry not picked up after the event can be picked up at Miss D’s Quilts on the Monday after. \nCATEGORIES\n1. LARGE PIECED QUILTS—Made and quilted by one or more persons and more than 50% pieced.\n2. INTERMEDIATE PIECED QUILTS—made and quilted by one or more persons with the total of all sides being greater than 180” but less than 288” and more than 50% pieced.\n3. SMALL PIECED QUILTS—total of all sides less than 180”\n4. APPLIQUE QUILTS – more than 50% pieced). Category includes stained glass quilts.\n5. EMBROIDERY QUILTS—quilts predominantly with machine embroidered blocks or patterns. All sizes will be included in this category.\n6. HAND QUILTED—Quilted exclusively by hand.\n7. ART QUILTS—Original designs\n8. MINIATURE QUILTS –Width no more than 24” and length no more than 24”. All aspects of the quilt are reduced in scale.\nCATEGORIES CONTINUED \n9. OTHER TECHNIQUES—examples of this category will include whole cloth quilts\, more than 40% heavily embellished quilts\, crazy quilts\, cathedral window\, machine and/or hand embroidered\, and quilts with very special techniques. Any size except miniature\n10. YOUNG QUILTER—All quilts made by quilters under the age of 16 or students in grade 12 and under. The entire quilt must be pieced and quilted by the young quilter. Young Quilters are not limited to this category. SUMMARY:Rope Bowl Class with Susan\, Tuesday\, March 25th
DESCRIPTION:This is a fun class where you will have an opportunity to let your creativity go wild making a bowl with rope and fabric.  Then embellish it as you wish.  This is a beginner’s class where Susan will teach you the basics of how to coil your base\, measure the rope\, determine the width of your bowl\, and how to guide your rope to make the sides.  Susan will discuss the keys to making your bowl your own by keeping the tension on the rope as you sew and suggestion of how to finish the bowl. \nWhat to bring: \n\nSewing Machine (don’t forget the power cord and foot pedal)\nOpen Toe ZigZag foot\nJeans needle or top stitch\nScissors\nThread:  Natural color or you might want to select colored rope\, then you will need thread to match or contrast the colors.\nOptional:  ½” cut strips of fabric\nYou will need to purchase a 25 yard bundle of rope.\n\nRemember any items you purchase for class from Miss D’s you will receive a 15% discount.

SUMMARY:Kaleidoscope Quilt with Rikki\, March 22nd and 29th\, Saturday
DESCRIPTION:To quote “A Kaleidoscope Quilt is a symmetrical quilt that takes its design features from the intricate patterns inside a kaleidoscope. DESCRIPTION:We normally have our Embroidery Club meeting on the 1st Saturday of each  month.  Due to unforeseen circumstances we have moved it to the second Saturday.  Each month Betty works to bring you embroidery designs that help you expand your knowledge of embroidery machine and its capabilities.\nOur embroidery classes are open to all brands of machines.\n\nWhat you need to bring :\n– sewing machine\, embroidery and a foot pedal\n– a good variety of threads\n– handful of scraps for applique.\n– all your feet including the ones for your machine – make sure you have a “Q” foot an ankle and an A B or C foot.\n– cords for the machine\n– a 100 X 100 and  a 130 x180 hoop. If you don’t have either of these hoops\, bring your smallest and next to the smallest hoops you have.\n– tear-a-way stabilizer and 101 backing. Ms. D carries both of these items. (Instead of 101\, you can use wonder under)\n– a stick for your designs. There are no designs to buy\, you will either use one you have or draw one yourself. DESCRIPTION:2 Day Advanced IQ Designer Event\n\nSpecial techniques covered- digitizing custom couching designs\, setting up in-the-hoop piecing\,  and mylar embroidery.  \n\n\n1.  Yarn Couching Pillow \n\n\nDigitize an in-the-hoop pillow cover that features a unique yarn couching flamingo design.\n(Cover fits a 10″ pillow form)\n\n\n2.  Garden Flag\n\nCreate a mylar embroidery design and an in-the-hoop garden flag using IQ Designer.\n(Finished flag measures width of largest hoop x height of largest hoop)\n\n\n3.  Pieced Mini\n\nDigitize a pieced quilt block with custom embroidery.\n(Finished mini measures 9.5″ square)\n\n\n  \nThis class is designed for those who own a Solaris\, Altair 2\, Meridian 2\, Destiny\, Brother machine with similar software or anyone who is interested in owning a similar machine.  For those possibly interested\, we have three machines available please call the shop for more information. \nWhat to bring to class: \n\nSpools of embroidery thread your favorite colors\nSpools of regular sewing thread neutral colors\nBobbin thread or pre-wound bobbins\nMachine embroidery needles\nDon’t forget your power cord\, foot pedal and your regular embroidery and sewing accessories\n\nWhen: April 19th and April 20th\, Friday and Saturday \nTime:  10:00 – 4:00 both days \nCost:  $175.00; fee includes light lunch (2 days)\, and instructor fee. \nRemember any items purchased at Miss D’s for class receive a 15% discount.  Please let us know in advance if you will need supplies\, so that we can ensure we have what you need at hand. \nProjects in the class will be similar but may not be the exact same as the pictures — the techniques will be the same. \n  \nMeet your educator: \n \nJory Snyder \nJory grew up in Texas and throughout her childhood in Texas\, her mother was an avid sewer and crafter\, so sewing and crafting are part of her DNA. One of her first memories was making\ncustom stickers to “screenprint” and personalize her Barbie doll’s clothing. After graduating from Texas Tech University with a degree in apparel design and manufacturing\, she worked for a publisher in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as an editor and designer for INKnitters and Crochet Fantasy magazines. \nPlease note the start time of the class\, out of respect and courtesy for all attending\, plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early so that you might be set up and ready to go at the start time.  If you need any assistance moving\, loading\, and setting up your machine\, please let us know. \nPlease note:  Classes must be paid in advance\, you are placed on wait list until class fees are paid.  Cancellations will be accepted until 7 days prior to class\, you may be offered the option of store credit or refund.  Miss D’s will work with you every way possible.  No refunds or store credit available after this date.
