DESCRIPTION:She is BACK!! Yes\, Betty Ann will be back with us on Saturday\, June 6th \nWe are all very excited about our June project.  It is pretty nifty project!  And\, it is an In The Hoop project from Sweet Pea Machine Embroidery.  The design name is “Embroidery Essentials Kit.” If you go online to Sweet Pea\, key the design name in the search box.  It should come right up.  The design cost $5.99. It is a little case that snaps shut and will hold small tools. Like needles\, scissors and the like.  It has a snap closure. Great for carrying to classes and stitching days.  The pictures are from Rikki showing her completed project.\nAs you can see\, Rikki stitched hers in purple and pink fabrics. She only used one color of embroidery thread.  Never changed colors!  Not once.  Of course\, you can if you want to.  Rikki is providing the cutting instructions of the 5×5 kit. DESCRIPTION:  Hello everyone.  Betty Ann had her open heart surgery on April 19th. She is home and doing well!  For which we are so grateful. She will start training for a marathon soon! Well\, at least she can almost walk to the mailbox! She is in good spirits and can’t wait to come back to teach!  We won’t be doing software this month\, but I am planning on doing some in June. \n\nI will be teaching the Embroidery Club for May. We will be making kitchen towels to hang thru the handles of the stove or any other bar in your kitchen.  Miss D has lots of toweling to choose from. It is finished on both sides.  You will only have to hem the ends.  Or you can purchase a ready made towel. DESCRIPTION:Quilts by the River in Downtown Palatka. \nOur quilt show is a little different in that it is a smaller and more intimate affair.  You will have an opportunity to leisurely stroll through the quilts while admiring the techniques and uniqueness of each quilt.   Like other shows we do have a certified judge\, with categories and prizes\, vendors\, and baskets for bidding.   We hope through our show quilters and non-quilters alike will be inspired to continue the heritage of quilting and fiber arts. \nVendors for this year:  Martelli\, Arrow Cabinets\, Origami Owl Jewelry\, Granny Suzanne Patterns\, Accuquilt\, 52 Stitches\, plus more \nQuilts are displayed at Saint James Methodist Fellowship Hall\, 400 Reid Street\, Palatka\, Florida.  Entrance fee is $7.00 per person.  If you submit a quilt\, you automatically have free admission to the show.  To add to our event\, when you pay your entrance fee you will receive a Vendor Passport.  Bring it with you to the vendor show located at 301 Saint Johns Avenue\, receive stamps from all the vendors then enter the passport for an opportunity to win either a Gift Certificate to Miss D’s for $250.00 or $400.00.  Just a little more fun! \nAll entrants must submit one completed application form for each entry; the application form may be photocopied. Each application or must be accompanied with either a check or money order in the amount $15.00 made payable to Miss D’s Quilts.  All quilts must be received by March 21\, 2025\, by 5:00 p.m.\, or they will not be included in the event. Quilts may be mailed to Miss D’s Quilts\, 305 St. Johns Avenue\, Palatka\, Florida 32177\, or hand delivered to the same address.  Quilts must be submitted with a completed application form\, payment\, and must be enclosed in a fabric bag with secure means of closure. The quilt owner’s name and phone number must appear on the outside of the fabric bag/pillowcase. Each quilt must have its own fabric bag/pillowcase. Each quilt must have a 4” sleeve at the top of the quilt for proper display.  There must be no more than 90” from the bottom of the quilt to the sleeve. \nALL ENTRIES MUST HAVE:\n1. A LABEL stitched to the LOWER LEFT SIDE of the back of the quilt with the maker and quilter’s name. The label may be stitched or written in permanent ink. NO information should be on the front of the quilt. The label MUST MATCH THE APPLICATION entry form.\n2. A 4-inch SLEEVE must be on the upper back for hanging. The top sleeve should be no more than 90” from the bottom of the quilt\,\n3. Be submitted in a bag or pillowcase – CLEARLY MARKED with your name and the name of the entry.\n4. Be submitted with a LEGIBLE / COMPLETE entry application.\n5. A check payable to Miss D’s Quilt or cash for the submission fee.\n6. A signature and date for the HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT. \nGENERAL RULES:\n1. All entries must be quilted by hand\, machine\, or both. Quilting is defined as a running stitch that passes through the top\, batting\, and backing. TIED quilts are not eligible.\n2. All quilts must fit the size requirements and definitions of the selected category. See: CATEGORIES section to determine your placement.\n3. NO quilt larger than 110” by 110” are accepted.\n4. Entrants may not submit more than three quilts for this event. NO single entry can be in multiple categories\, but you may have 3 quilts in the same category.\n5. NO quilt previously entered in prior Quilts by the River events may be submitted.\n6. Quilts must be in excellent condition. NO Incomplete\, torn\, or soiled entries will be accepted.\n7. A qualified category will be eligible for monetary awards when there are 4 or more entries in that category. If a qualified category has less than 4 entries\, it will be eligible for ribbons only.\n8. All quilts must be checked in by the acceptance date and remain on display both days.\n9. All shipped quilts must contain a prepaid return package and must arrive during the acceptance period. They will be returned within a two-week period after the event.\n10. All decisions of the jurors and judges are final. Quilts by the River reserves the right to REJECT ANY ENTRY OR MOVE AN ENTRY TO A DIFFERENT CATEGORY.\n11. EMBROIDERY QUILTS—quilts predominantly with machine embroidered blocks or patterns. All sizes will be included in this category.\n6. HAND QUILTED—Quilted exclusively by hand.\n7. ART QUILTS—Original designs\n8. MINIATURE QUILTS –Width no more than 24” and length no more than 24”. All aspects of the quilt are reduced in scale.\nCATEGORIES CONTINUED \n9. SUMMARY:Serger Club\, 2nd Saturday of the Month
DESCRIPTION:Monthly Serger Club\nThe serger club meets on the second Saturday of each month at 10:00.  The club works on various projects ranging from leggings\, bags\, or jackets. \nFor February we will be making a tote from the beautiful canvas fabric from Create Joy a designer for Moda.  Or\, you can choose to bring something from your stash. DESCRIPTION:This Saturday Feb. 7th is our Embroidery Club class. We are making a Hug Shawl. There are lots of ways of adding material\, embroidery\, and strips. In this class\, we will be learning the technique of constructing the shawl. It has been challenging and fun. Mine is going to an older lady in my church that is always cold in the service. Since it just goes around the neck and shoulders\, anyone could use it in chilly places – the movie theater\, church\, restaurant\, to name a few.\n\nCome join us for this unique class.\n \nIn the coming months we will be embroidering in wood\,  cross stitch embroidery and lots more.\n \nFabric needed for the Hug Shawl – \n– 2 1/2 yards for front of shawl\n– 2 1/2 yards of coordinating fabric or polar fleece for the inside of the shawl (I am using fabric for the inside with batting) . I may hate myself but I’m doing                 it.\n– 2 – 3 X 8 pieces of coordinating fabric for the closure tab (you can use what is left from the front or back material)\n– 1 X 7 Hook and loop tape or a zipper or any kind of closure you like.\n– left over fabric for pockets\n– machine with pedal and power cord. \n– all the sewing stuff – feet\, scissors\, thread\, seam ripper (hopefully that will not be needed – much)\n \nIf you have a friend that might be interested in joining the club – bring them along to watch. New owners – start here! \nIris will review the fundamental features so that by the end of the class you will be familiar with features\, what they do\, and how to use them.  With this information\, you will be able to take advantage of Pro-Stitcher for your projects. \nAfternoon session is 1:30 – 4:30\, Ruler Work\nIf you love precision and consistency in your quilting designs\, you will love using rulers and templates! These handy tools assist in placing designs accurately and stitching them out precisely. Learn to handle rulers and templates safely with the ruler base and Sure Foot\, and how to achieve accuracy with the markings.
