Application Rules and Requirements

THANK YOU for your interest in QUILTS BY THE RIVER SHOW.

Please review all below to complete your entry.  You may print this form using any word software and use as the application form.  Once you have copied it into your word software, you will have to format the content for easier printing.

ALL ENTRIES MUST HAVE:

  1. A LABEL stitched to the LOWER LEFT SIDE of the back of the quilt with the maker and quilter’s name. The label may be stitched or written in permanent ink. NO information should be on the front of the quilt. The label MUST MATCH THE APPLICATION entry form.
  2. 4-inch SLEEVE on the upper back for hanging
  3. Be submitted in a bag or pillowcase – CLEARLY MARKED with your name and the name of the entry.
  4. Be submitted with a LEGIBLE / COMPLETE entry application.
  5. A check payable to Miss D’s Quilt or cash for the submission fee on each entry.
  6. A signature and date for the HOLD HARMLSS AGREEMENT.

GENERAL RULES:

  1. All entries must be quilted by hand, machine, or both. Quilting is defined as a running stitch that passes through the top, batting, and backing. TIED quilts are not eligible.
  2. All quilts must fit the size requirements and definitions of the selected category. See: CATEGORIES section to determine your placement. NO QUILT larger than 110” by 110” are accepted.
  3. Entrants may not submit more than three quilts for this event. NO single entry can be in multiple categories, but you may have 3 quilts in the same category.
  4. NO quilt previously entered in prior Quilts by the River events may be submitted.
  5. Quilts must be in excellent condition. NO Incomplete, torn, or soiled entries will be accepted.
  6. A qualified category will be eligible for monetary awards when there are 4 or more entries in that category. If a qualified category has less than 4 entries, it will be eligible for ribbons only.
  7. All quilts must be checked in by the acceptance date and REMAIN ON DISPLAY BOTH DAYS.
  8. All shipped quilts must contain a prepaid return package and must arrive during the acceptance period. They will be returned within a two-week period after the event.
  9. The jurors’ and judges’ decisions are final. Quilts by the River may reject any entry or move it to another category.
  10. Entries will be picked up by the PERSON WHO ENTERED IT after the event.
  11. Any entry not picked up after the event can be picked up at Miss D’s Quilts on the Monday after the show.
  12. ALL ENTRIES MUST sign a HOLD HARMELESS STATEMENT for each entry.
  13. All entries must be received no later than March 20, 2027 by 5:00 pm including $15.00 fee.

CATAGORIES

  1. LARGE PIECED QUILTS—Made and quilted by one or more persons. Size no larger than 110”X110”. (top sleeve is to be no more than 90” from the bottom of the quilt and more than 50% pieced)
  2. INTERMEDIATE PIECED QUILTS—made and quilted by one or more persons with the total of all sides being greater than 180” but less than 288” and more than 50% pieced.
  3. SMALL PIECED QUILTS—total of all sides less than 189”
  4. APPLIQUE QUILTS – Size no larger than 110”X110”. (top sleeve is to be no more than 90” from the bottom of the quilt and more than 50% pieced). Category includes STAINED GLASS QUILTS.
  5. EMBROIDERY QUILTS—quilts with machine embroidered blocks or patterns. All sizes will be included in this category.
  6. HAND QUILTED—Quilted exclusively by hand.
  7. ART QUILTS—Original designs
  8. MINIATURE QUILTS –Width no more than 24” and length no more than 24”. All aspects of the quilt are reduced in scale.

CATAGORIES CONTINUED

  1. OTHER TECHNIQUES—examples of this category will include whole cloth quilts, more than 40% heavily embellished quilts, crazy quilts, cathedral window quilts, and quilts with very special techniques. Any size except miniature and no larger than 110”x110”. (top sleeve no more than 90” from the bottom of the quilt)
  2. YOUNG QUILTER—All quilts made by quilters under the age of 16 or students in grade 12 and under. The entire quilt must be pieced and quilted by the young quilter. Young Quilters are not limited to this category. Size no larger than 110”x110”. There is no entry fee required for this category, however, to submit a quilt in this category, the quilter must provide their age which will be listed on their quilt.

HOLD HARMLESS AGREEMENT: The following statement must be signed before your quilt will be accepted for the Quilts by the River 2027. I agree to permit Quilts by the River to display my quilt at their show, ____________________ and _____________. I understand that reasonable care will be taken to protect my quilt, and I understand that no responsibility for any loss or damage to my quilt can be assumed by Quilts by the River, Miss D’s Quilt Shop, and/or any member of the Quilts by the River volunteers or Staff members. I hold harmless Quilts by the River, Saint James Methodist Church, and event sponsors for any responsibility to my quilt. I hereby give my permission for my entry to be photographed for use in event related publicity. Quilts by the River reserves the right to reject your quilt if it does not meet the rules for entry or any other reason at the discretion of the Members and Staff of Quilts by the River.
